Gina Lafortune holds a Bachelor’s degree in Pyschology (université d’État d’Haïti), a Master degree and a Ph.D. in Education Science (Psychopedagogy) from the Université de Montréal. She is a professor in the Department of Specialized Education and Training (DEFS) at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM) and a member of the Montreal Universities Center for Ethnic Studies (http://www.ceetum.umontreal.ca). Her research interests focus on the dynamics of acculturation and the academic experience of immigrant youth, specially students of Haitian origin. She is also interested in school-family-community relations and the challenges of adapting to ethnocultural diversity in schools. Her most recent research (2016-2019) aims to document the experience of students of Haitian origin in college.
