Dr. Marcia E. Sutherland is the past Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Africana Studies and the Department of Psychology at the University at Albany, State University of New York. She is the author of the book Black Authenticity: A Psychology for Liberating People of African Descent published by Third World Press (l997). She has published several articles on the Caribbean experience. She has also published on obesity, substance abuse, on Black Faculty in White Academia, among other articles. She has lectured throughout the U.S., Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, and the United Kingdom on issues affecting people of African heritage. In August l998, she received the Distinguished Psychologist Award for Scholarly Advancement of Black Psychology from the National Association of Black Psychologists. She is the Founding President of the non-profit community organization “The Capital District of New York Caribbean American Cultural Association, Inc.”
